It seems like its getting tougher and tougher for todays kids to have a good time. Gone are the days of playing in the streets and parks unsupervised, now it is playdates and organized securitized events. Really though the kids are usually not the ones being the problem. See this article.

    Bubble boys (and girls)- Part 1

    The statistics are alarming. An 18% increase in food allergies in children in the last 10 years has meant 3 million kids in the US currently have to watch what they eat. Why such a dramatic increase? The jury seems to be out with a number of possible reasons, one being that children with ‘weak’ stomachs or ‘mystery’ rashes and symptoms are being properly diagnosed. It would seem that is a possibility but what is the root cause of this epidemic. Food allergies are pretty much unheard of in the developing world.     What’s in your basket?

    Winter is upon us. The leaves have fallen off, frost is on the ground,snow is falling etc,etc, unless you live in San Diego like me where the appearance of a cloud on the horizon leads to the scrambling of the news channels “Stormwatch” team. A visit to my local supermarket however makes it feel like summer all over again. Melons, pineapple, mangos, papaya and even strawberries line the shelves, perfectly engineered specimens asking to be picked up and manhandled… Wait a minute, strawberries? I live 2 miles from some of the biggest strawberry fields in California and there aint nothing being picked these days. Read More…
